Washington: Verbod op BPA en ftalaten in verpakkingen voor voedingsmiddelen

Currently, Washington law restricts the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in some food contact applications (e.g., children’s drinking containers). The bill Washington HB 2779, introduced in the Washington House of Representatives on February 7, 2014, would extend the BPA to other types of food packaging and add restrictions on the use of phthalates. The bill also requires that “All food packaging that contains bisphenol A must display a label stating ‘This package contains bisphenol A (a chemical that may harm fetal development) which can leach into the food.’ The mandatory warning message requirements would take effect on January 1, 2016 (State Recycling Laws Update, 17 February 2014).
