V.S. FDA stelt update voedingswaardentabel op voorverpakte voedingsmiddelen voor
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration proposes to amend the Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods in order to support consumers in a healthy diet.
Latest nutrition science proves the connection between food consumption and development of chronic diseases, hence FDA’s request to improve transparency of the Nutrition Facts label.
Some of the main changes would be listing the amount of added sugars, the update of serving sizes to reflect the amounts people currently eat, the declaration of potassium and vitamin D, a revision of the daily values for sodium, dietary fibres and vitamin D and the removal of ‘calories from fat’ (FDA Nieuwsbericht, 27 februari 2014).
