A new Technavio study covers the growth prospects of the global biodegradable packaging materials market for the period 2014-2018. A growth of +10% p/a is foreseen. The report provides data on product type, application and geography. Biodegradable materials are materials that are readily decomposed by the action of microorganisms (ref. ISO Standard 18606 Packaging and the environment - Organic recycling). They differ from non-degradable packaging in terms of raw materials, production technology and applications. Biodegradable materials are widely used in packaging applications (primary, secondary and tertiary) because of their sustainability image, material properties, and appearance.
