The global consumption of (PET) packaging is forecast to reach 20.8 million tonnes by 2021, according to a SmithersPira market intelligence report. Driven mainly by increasing demand in emerging and transitional economies, the market will grow 3.6% annually during the period 2016–21. PET packaging will see strong growth due to increasing demand in end-use markets. There has been a continued transition away from glass and to a varying extent, metal cans, particularly for hot fill applications such as sauces and other preserved foods.
The report presents volume and value forecasts by end-use sector and geographic region and examines key economic, social and demographic trends.
